Christian Cannon and Jennifer Cannon
My name is Christian Cannon LMHC and I am a recovering alcoholic and addict. I am 55 years old and I have been clean and sober since November 8th 2005. When I was released from jail in 2005, after spending a year there and after many times there before, I was fortunate enough to be allowed to stay in a sober environment for my first 13 months of recovery. While living there I attended 12 step meetings, obtained a sponsor and began the 12 step process. During that process my life began to change immensely. My perception of life began to become more positive and I gained hope for the future. My broken relationships were being restored and financial amends were being made. During that time I was able to earn a GED and have since earned a MA degree in counseling and I am still slowly currently working on PhD in psychology. The greatest thing that happened during that process was that, for the first time in my life, my obsession to use drugs and alcohol went away. As the 9th step promises say, I had a new freedom and a new happiness.
Just when I thought it could not get any better, my life became more amazing! Around 5 years ago while completing a year long weekly service commitment we both participated in at the local detox unit, I fell in love with my wife Jennifer. Not only is she intelligent and beautiful, she also has a strong background in the addiction field both personally and professionally. Her compassion and desire to help the suffering addict/alcoholic are an indispensable asset for the team of 1st Avenue to Freedom. Her work and experience on the front end of the recovery process and ability to connect with these men and their families prove that love and kindness changes lives. She will help you navigate through this often confusing and painful process while assisting you in phone screenings and the admissions process. Her understanding of how this disease affects the entire family and ability to empathize with these family members has enabled them to get the help they also need and deserve.
Together we as a team believe that our personal experience as well as our professional experience help to provide these men the most stable and safe drug free living environment. At all times we will consider every man individually while trying to maintain the integrity of our policies and procedures.
